Introduction

Product Intern @ Inovalon

This past summer 2024, I had the opportunity to join Inovalon’s Front-end Revenue Cycle Management team as a Product Intern. I worked directly with my mentor and other members of our team, conducting user research and creating initial designs for Registration Workflow, a new platform simplifying front-end revenue cycle management workflows to accelerate care access.

After the summer, I’ve been lucky enough to continue my work with Inovalon in the fall.

Contributions & Impact

Created a client outreach list and conducted 6+ user interviews to discover pain points of Registration Workflow.

02. User Interface Design

Updated the information hierarchy and user flows to better fit users’ needs, creating new components adhering to design principles in Figma.

03: Use Case Documentation

I helped formulate primary use cases for Registration Workflow and Eligibility Pro, Inovalon’s insurance eligibility verification platform..

04. Competitive Research

I conducted and synthesized Registration Workflow’s competitors information, creating Excel sheets comparing various products and their features.

Learnings

My First Glimpse Into The Corporate World

Although I have had prior experience working for non-profits and startups, working with Inovalon as a Product Intern has been my first glimpse into a corporate workplace environment. I was able to learn how my designs and decisions affected the company at a larger scale.

Lessons Learned

I learned a wide variety of important lessons during my time with Inovalon.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions; speaking up is the best way to learn, especially in a professional environment. Without asking, you will not grow.

  • Having a grasp on business and customer needs is crucial and helped me make vastly better design decisions.

  • Tableau and Salesforce are great platforms for visualizing and understanding product trends.

  • Getting to know your coworkers through coffee chats is an amazing way to built report and expand your connections!
